MBLAQ members reveal the celebrities they keep in touch with

 

 

Girls’ Generation recently drew interest for revealing the top celebrities they keep in touch with, and idol group MBLAQ‘s own social circles are also garnering new attention.

The members of MBLAQ previously filled out a ‘resume’ for Mnet‘s ‘Wide Entertainment News‘, and the things they wrote down by hand caused netizens to explode in laughter.

The members revealed their real names, wrote down what kind of assets they have to their name, some of the hilarious ‘concerns’ they had, and in which ways they thought they were superior to their fellow members.

G.O. felt that he was good looking and therefore had an advantage in the group, while his concern was also that he was a bit too good looking. Meanwhile, Mir hilariously wrote that he had an advantage over the members because he owned a lot of land, and Thunder‘s biggest concern was whether he should eat pork belly plain or to eat it with kimchi.

The boys also wrote down the names of top celebrities they were close with.

Seungho wrote that he was close with 2AM‘s Seulong and After School‘s NaNa, and under the ‘top star’ category, he scribbled the names of Rain & Se7en. G.O. wrote down 2PM‘s Junsu and 2AM’s Seulong, while also writing Rain in the ‘top star’ box. Lee Joon wrote that he kept in contact with Onew and Yonghwa, and sure enough, also wrote Rain under ‘top star’. Thunder played it safe by simply writing the number of celebrities he was close to, while Mir proved to be the socialite by writing numerous names such as Jinwoon, Key, Dongwoon, Nicole, NaNa, Jae Jin, Minho, Rain, Mighty Mouth, and hilariously, his sister Go Eun Ah.

Netizens who reviewed the boys’ ‘resume’ remarked, “They are all blood type A, interesting,” and “They have a wide circle of friends,” as well as “Mir has a lot of land?”

’2011 MBC Gayo Daejun Festival’ unveils its artist line-up

As the final music event of the year, the 2011 MBC Gayo Daejun Festival (or ‘MBC Korean Music Festival’) has unveiled a spectacular artist line-up fit to send off 2011 with a bang!

The festival is scheduled to take place on Saturday, December 31st at 10PM KST. Starting on the 13th, MBC began to unveil their list of artists through the event’s Twitter and Facebook.

The nominees for the ’26th Golden Disk Awards’!

The Golden Disk Awards (better known as the Korean equivalent of the Grammys) will soon be entering its 26th year, and organizers have just announced its list of nominees.

Separated into ‘Digital’ and ‘Album’ awards, the Golden Disk is known for selecting winners based on sales figures over the year. For this year’s nominees, the committee considered albums released from January 1st, 2011 to November 30th, 2011.

The 26th Golden Disk Awards will be held in Osaka, Japan on January 11th and 12, 2012 at the Kyocera Dome.

SNSD’s YoonA selected as most intelligent female idol

 

According to a survey conducted by a clinic located in Seoul Gangnam’s Seochowon, SNSD‘s YoonA was chosen as the most intelligent girl group member.

273 people were asked to choose one girl group member that seemed to have an intelligence above the rest, and 148 (54.2%) of the vote went to YoonA. Runner up was KARA‘s Goo Hara with 23.4% of all votes, followed by After School‘s Kahi who earned 18.3% of the overall vote.

The clinic explained, “The participants felt that girl group members who actively sing, act, and make numerous variety show appearance must be the most talented and intelligent. It takes a lot of brainpower to be able to do all three with finesse, and they most likely grew progressively smarter over time, as the human brain further develops the more you utilize it”

YoonA and the rest of her SNSD members have recently made a comeback with their new album ‘The Boys‘ and achieved an all-kill shortly after the release.

Mnet Media Awards 2011 released list nominees!

Who is the most undervalued idol actors?

 

It’s easy to stereotype idol actors as untalented due to the many acting controversies they’re swept in once they actually try their hand in acting.  Unfortunately, this is unfair to some idol-turned-actors that actually do have the talent to make it in the industry, which is why Sports Chosun brought together 10 entertainment reporters to choose the idol actors that they think are the most undervalued.

To most people, After School‘s UEE actually matches the title of ‘actress’ more than ‘member of After School.’  She was praised for her unlikely acting skills through her role in SBS‘s ‘You’re Handsome‘ and went on to take on a variety of other roles including tvN‘s ‘Birdie Buddy‘ and KBS‘s ‘Ojakgyo Brothers‘.

Such is the reason why she came out on top, earning a total of six votes.  She also received seven votes for the actress with the most potential to improve, as well as five votes for most improved acting.

Following UEE is The Trax‘s Jay, who earned three votes for KBS‘s ‘Women of Our Home‘.  He earned a vote for his improved acting, with his only flaw being that the dramas he has participated in have suffered from low viewer ratings.

The last vote went to Super Junior‘s Choi Siwon of KBS‘s ‘Poseidon‘.  He earned two votes for his potential and a vote for his improved acting.  Many also remarked that he was an actor they looked forward to seeing grow and improve in the future.

Unfortunately, it’s only natural that people will view idol-turned-actors in a negative light.  Compared to actors that dedicate their entire lives to their craft, idols often land their roles based on a foundation they built from dancing and singing.

Reporters also gave six votes on idols indeed needing more training and preparation before they advanced their careers.  They also gave zero votes to a ‘there needs to be more idol actors.’

There still is hope, though, as reporters gave four votes to there being no problem should an idol debut with the proper acting skills required for their roll.  Considering the fact that ‘idol singers must only focus on their singing activities’ earned zero votes, it’s really up to the idols in deciding their futures.

The Average Height of Girl Groups has Increased

When in 2005 the idol group LPG (Long Pretty Girls) debuted, many people were shocked and amazed by their stunning heights. Their former member Han Young measured a whopping 180cm, making the average height of the girl group 175cm, while the average height of women was 160cm back then. Six years has passed and it seems that the average height of Korean girl groups has gone up.

In 1990, the average height of the popular girl group S.E.S measured 161cm and that of Fin.K.L measured 166cm. The average height of the girl groups that have made their debut in 2007 were 163cm (Wonder Girls), 164cm (SNSD) and 161cm (Kara), breaking the 160cm average.

However, the new girl groups Nine Muses, LPG 2, April Kiss, After School, Dal Shabet and RaNia have managed to get the average height up to 170cm with their average heights of 172cm, 170cm, 173cm, 168cm, 169cm, and 170cm, respectively.

Some girls are still in their teen years and it is possible for them to grow a few centimeters. Also, when performing on killer heels, they heighten their average up to 180cm, making even some men jealous of their height.

A representative of one of the girl groups’ agency stated that, “The average has increased because of a variety of changes in the girls’ diets. Of course, the most important factors for a prospective girl group member to have are great vocal skills. However, because visuals are becoming more and more important, we tend to select the taller girls.”

However, the increased heights of these girls also bring several difficulties. One of them is the groups’ choreography. One of the choreographers commented, “It is very difficult to perform powerful moves, the moves come out a bit sloppy. That is why most dance routines are limited to sexy walks and poses.”

A second difficulty is the concept of the girl group. Will a group fit the sexy concept or the cute concept? While Kara and SNSD pull of both concepts, it still remains difficult to fit in both. One of the girl groups’ representative said, “There are tall girls who pull off the cute look, however, it remains limited. The only solution is to be creative and to adjust and create new and old concepts.”
